Full-time position with a schedule of 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM at RiverMead, a premier not-for-profit Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) in Peterborough, NH. Join our Resident Enrichment team to support residents, employees, and guest members in living healthier, more active lives.

About the role

As a Fitness Specialist, you will provide fitness orientations, assessments, and group exercise instruction for individuals ranging from fully active to frail. This role is ideal for those with a background in personal training, athletics, healthcare, or senior wellness, offering a meaningful career helping older adults stay strong, safe, and engaged.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Fitness Manager with daily operations of the Fitness Center, pool, and Village Fitness Room, ensuring safety standards and policies are met.
  • Conduct fitness center orientations, including health-history interviews, equipment safety reviews, and safe exercise technique instruction.
  • Perform fitness assessments and follow-up consultations, documenting progress for evidence-based programs such as fall prevention.
  • Educate and motivate residents on fitness and health-related topics.
  • Monitor equipment daily to ensure safe working order, maintain equipment records, and coordinate repairs.
  • Monitor the Community App fitness modules and assist with development of monthly fitness program calendars.
  • Protect resident, employee, and guest confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA, referring to healthcare professionals when appropriate.
  • Assist with on- and off-site recreation outings, including driving RiverMead vehicles (including 14-passenger buses) to transport residents.
  • Work collaboratively with the Fitness Manager and broader Resident Enrichment team to deliver an exceptional wellness experience.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid Certification.
  • NCCA-accredited Personal Fitness Training certification.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience working with the aging/elderly population.
  • Strong communication skills with individuals of all ages and backgrounds.
  • Foundational knowledge of human anatomy, kinesiology, and training principles.
  • Dependable, self-motivated, and team-oriented.
