This full-time Fitness Programmer position is located at the Claude Moore Recreation & Community Center in Sterling, VA.

Responsibilities

  • Create fitness programs to provide individuals with opportunities to participate in a wide range of fitness-related activities, promoting physical well-being.
  • Provide fitness instructor training, as needed.
  • Supervise part-time Group Exercise Instructor and Personal Training staff, including interviewing, onboarding, discipline, and evaluation.
  • Develop and market a robust monthly Group Exercise class schedule, including varied class formats, multiple modalities, and class times to meet community needs.
  • Formulate program evaluation benchmarks, approaches, and resources, and integrate evaluation information into future program strategizing.
  • Maintain a safe environment for all program participants and patrons.
  • Work effectively with outside agencies and organizations to promote the program and its goals in the community.
  • Coordinate all aspects of fitness programs and activities, including group exercise classes and personal training.
  • Perform additional critical job responsibilities pertinent to the role and departmental assignment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or its equivalent and four (4) years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must undergo criminal background, credit, DMV, and Child Protective Services (CPS) background checks.
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license with a good driving record (records may be reviewed annually).
  • Must hold or obtain First Aid/CPR/AED certifications at hire or within four (4) months.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in exercise science, kinesiology, physical education, or a related field.
  • One (1) year of experience in a supervisory role in a related field.
  • Certification recognized by the NCCA-National Commission for Certifying Agencies (ACSM, NASM, NSCA, ACE).
  • American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid Instructor certification.
  • Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP).

Schedule

Work schedule varies according to operational hours and may include weekdays, evenings, and weekends.
