Position Overview

Are you a passionate fitness professional who loves inspiring others to reach their health and wellness goals? The City of Aurora’s Recreation Division is looking for a dynamic Fitness Instructor to design, choreograph, and lead high-energy group exercise classes for our vibrant community. Responsibilities

• Plan, design, and teach group exercise classes
• Responsible for choreography and planning of exercise classes
• Develop exercise programs designed for a variety of levels in small and/or large group settings
• Keep effective communication during class with participants using verbal cues, corrections, and guidance
• Set up equipment and music prior to class and break down/clean after class
• Keep up with new fitness trends to implement in classes/programs
• Modify exercise plans based on needs, potential injuries, or health issues
• Oversee the use of fitness equipment to ensure clients exercise properly and safely
• Perform minor first aid and respond to emergencies if needed
• Effectively motivate participants and clients
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

• High School Diploma; degree in Kinesiology or Sports Science preferred
• At least 1 year of experience teaching fitness classes or personal training
• Personal Trainer/Group Fitness Instructor certification from an accredited institution
• CPR/AED certification

Working Conditions

• Essential Personnel: May be required to work during local emergencies or disasters
• Physical Demands: Medium work involving moving no more than 50 pounds at a time; frequent lifting, carrying, walking, and standing; may require frequent pushing, pulling, bending, and stooping; teaching fitness classes as scheduled
• Work Environment: Primarily indoors but may work outdoors for programs or events in varying weather conditions
• Equipment Used: Standard office equipment, personal computer, fitness equipment, and accessories

Pay

$26.00/hour

Schedule

Less than 29 hours per week (Variable Hour Non-Benefit Employee). This position does not provide medical benefits but earns sick leave in accordance with the Healthy Families and Workplace Act.
