About the role

As a General Manager at VASA Fitness, you will direct operations and sales at your club, building a team of results-driven, culture-based leads. You’ll wake up every day with the opportunity to drive your club toward financial and operational success while embodying and promoting VASA’s uplifting, inclusive culture.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the pace, financial performance, and consistency of the club, driving operational goals and objectives for lead roles.
  • Achieve club financial results, including member growth, revenue, club operating profit, fitness revenue, labor, employee turnover, and member retention.
  • Hire, develop, and performance-manage the club team, with a focus on lead positions (MEL, PTL, GFSTL, & CCTL).
  • Uphold and lead by example to deliver the “House of VASA” approach, purpose, and foundation.
  • Maintain a clean, friendly, and well-maintained club while ensuring all team members foster the “UPLIFT” culture.

Essential Duties

Managing (50%)

  • Provide consistent accountability for direct reports through training, coaching, planning sessions, and performance reviews.
  • Recognize good performance and take corrective action when necessary.
  • Hold leads accountable for driving and delivering results.
  • Control club labor weekly to meet budget expectations.
  • Recruit, interview, and hire leads; participate in final interviews for all club positions.
  • Engage in district progression planning and talent reviews with peer general managers.
  • Develop direct reports through face-time, coaching, and clear communication of priorities.
  • Provide direction to leads to deliver on performance goals and corporate initiatives.
  • Monitor club facilities to ensure adherence to company programs and initiatives.
  • Offer feedback and direction to leads and team members.
  • Communicate and execute sales and pricing promotions with leads.
  • Resolve escalated member concerns outside the authority of leads.
  • Enforce company policies and procedures, including loss prevention, employment, and HR policies.
  • Monitor and control retail inventory to drive REVIVE profitability.

Planning and Organizing (15%)

  • Provide direction to leads to develop thorough business plans with recurring performance checkpoints.
  • Establish priorities and goals for member acquisition and retention.
  • Identify, plan, and execute club improvements.
  • Facilitate club meetings to align with company goals and objectives.
  • Utilize the GM checklist to drive daily deliverables.

Leadership, Coaching, and Leading Change (35%)

  • Communicate, lead by example, and motivate your team to embrace the brand, values, and strategy (House of VASA).
  • Be consistently visible in the club, setting the example for member satisfaction and team engagement.
  • Create an inspiring environment for leads to bring the House of VASA to life.
  • Ensure VASA values are embedded in club management and personnel.
  • Collaborate with district support teams and corporate departments (HR, Safety, Loss Prevention, Payroll, Accounting, Operations, IT) to support initiatives.
  • Use VASA’s coaching cycle to set expectations, provide feedback, and drive team development and club results.
  • Foster a culture of accountability and serve as a subject matter expert for onboarding, training, and development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred; High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 2-4 years of progressive management experience supervising 1-10 employees.
  • 2-4 years of broad retail, hospitality, or service industry experience.
  • Comparable management experience preferred.
  • Prior experience in one or more club departments.
  • Operations management and sales experience.

Skills

  • Financial planning and knowledge of P&L statements.
  • Ability to work at a fast pace while prioritizing and multitasking effectively.
  • Proficiency in sales, marketing, and operations plans.
  • Strong leadership and team development skills.
  • Knowledge of the fitness industry preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in a club office environment and move throughout club floors and rooms.
  • Create, review, and revise club paperwork to communicate with employees, members, and the public.
  • Travel up to 10% of the time by car and airplane.
  • Communicate telephonically with internal and external members.
  • Operate company computer systems, including preparing documents, entering data, and reading reports.
  • Ability to lift up to 45 lbs.
  • Work is typically performed in a club with varying hours based on business needs, including extended workdays, weekends, and holidays.
  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts and occasionally loud noise levels.

Physical and Mental Activities

  • Talking: Frequently convey detailed or important instructions accurately, loudly, or quickly.
  • Physical Strength: Non-sedentary work; standing and walking most of the time. Must lift, push, pull, and move a minimum of 45 pounds.
  • Reasoning Ability: Deal with variables under limited standardization; interpret instructions and relay them to clients.
  • Attendance is essential; must work regularly scheduled shifts during business hours to assist members and sell services in-person.
