Fitness Center Associate (SMC Student Only)
Position Overview
Fitness Center Associates support the daily operations of the Moore Family Fitness Center and the Moore Gym. Associates provide excellent customer service, maintain a safe and clean environment, and assist patrons in making the most of their fitness experience. This position reports directly to the Assistant Director of Student Engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Welcome and properly check in patrons for the fitness center.
- Enforce fitness center policies in a consistent and professional manner.
- Absorb equipment use, spotting, and fitness-related questions within training limits.
- Provide accurate information and direct patrons to other campus resources as needed.
- Serve as the first responder during emergency situations, following established safety protocols.
- Maintain a clean and organized environment by re-racking weights and sanitizing equipment.
- Perform routine checks of equipment and facilities to identify safety hazards or maintenance needs.
- Report damages, broken equipment, or safety concerns promptly.
- Create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive recreation environment.
- Demonstrate reliability, punctuality, and accountability for all scheduled shifts.
- Build professional relationships with coworkers, patrons, and guests.
- Exhibit a strong work ethic and represent Campus Recreation with a positive attitude.
- Support fellow team members and contribute to a culture of safety, respect, and excellence.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Assistant Director of Student Engagement.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Interest in personal fitness, athletics, or wellness with a willingness to learn.
- CPR/AED & First Aid Certification (required; can be obtained after hire).
- Ability to work a variety of shifts, including mornings, evenings, and weekends.
- Commitment to working at least 10 hours per week.
- Ability to safely lift and move up to 50 pounds repeatedly.
- Basic computer skills; experience with Microsoft Word and Excel preferred.
