FIT NYC Adjunct Faculty Pool - English Composition and Rhetoric

The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), an internationally renowned college of art and design, business, and technology within the State University of New York, invites applications for a part-time adjunct faculty position in the English and Communication Studies Department, School of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

About the Role

The English and Communication Studies Department is recruiting a pool of applicants for possible adjunct teaching positions. Successful candidates will teach one or more of the department's courses in English Composition and Rhetoric, including EN 131 English Composition. Adjunct instructors deliver relevant course material, assess student performance, provide guidance and assistance to students both in and out of the classroom, and submit grades in a timely manner. Requirements

• Earned Master's degree in English, Writing, or a closely related area.
• Thirty (30) additional and appropriate graduate credits and/or evidence of scholarly achievement, professional activities, and college-level teaching experience in Composition and Rhetoric.
• The requirement for the Master's Degree may be waived if the candidate is in a doctoral program in which the Master's Degree is not required.

Qualifications

• PhD or other terminal degree in English, Writing, or a closely related field is preferred.

Schedule

This is a part-time adjunct teaching position beginning in Spring 2026. Review of applications will commence immediately and continue until the position is filled. The department will keep this posting open to create a pool of candidates for potential future adjunct assignments.

Pay

The UCE-FIT Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) governs compensation. The base rate is $89.98 per hour based on minimum qualifications. The final rate, step, and appointment rank may be higher if the candidate demonstrates qualifications that meet the school's criteria for hiring "above the first step," in accordance with the CBA Adjunct Salary Schedules (pp 88-89).
