Fisheries Biologist 1
About the role
The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) seeks a dedicated, hard-working individual with a passion for fisheries management for a full-time, permanent Fisheries Biologist 1 position in Fisheries Management Area 1, located in Linesville, Pennsylvania.
Responsibilities
- Field Surveys: Collect field data, lead crews, and assist with lake, river, and stream investigations
- Data Management: Enter data into the Agency Resource Database and analyze information to develop conclusions and recommendations
- Age Analysis: Determine fish age and growth using collected structures and conduct comparative analyses
- Creel Studies: Support angler creel surveys by directing field crews and helping prepare draft reports
- Fisheries Support: Assist with implementing fisheries recommendations and collaborate with specialists, agencies, and the public
- Resource Protection: Help investigate fish kills, pollution events, and respond to information requests
Qualifications
- Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: A bachelor’s degree in a biological science that includes or is supplemented by 12 college credits in fish biology, fisheries management, fish population dynamics, ichthyology, limnology, fish ecology, aquatic ecology, watershed ecology and management, wetland ecology and management, herpetology, freshwater entomology, fish culture, fish physiology, fish pathology, biometrics, or other courses closely related to fisheries science or aquatic ecology; or An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes 12 college credits in fish biology, fisheries management, fish population dynamics, ichthyology, limnology, fish ecology, aquatic ecology, watershed ecology and management, wetland ecology and management, herpetology, freshwater entomology, fish culture, fish physiology, fish pathology, biometrics, or other courses closely related to fisheries science or aquatic ecology.
- Special Requirement: Valid motor vehicle license.
- Other Requirements: PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title. Must be able to perform essential job functions.

Full-time employment with work hours of 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Linesville. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.
