About the role

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Wildlife Conservation is recruiting for a Fish and Game Program Technician located in Tok, Alaska.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the primary public contact for the Tok ADF&G Field Office, managing Game Management Units 12 and 20E.
  • Provides administrative, clerical, and operational support to area wildlife biologists and field staff.
  • Develops and maintains proficiency across multiple systems, regulations, and procedures.
  • Answers complex public inquiries by phone, email, and at the front counter.
  • Provides accurate information about local wildlife populations, land access, and hunting, fishing, trapping, waterfowl, and subsistence regulations.
  • Issues ADF&G permits and harvest tickets, sells licenses and big game tags, and collects, records, and manages hunt and harvest reports.
  • Seals and measures horns, skulls, and bear and furbearer hides, and collects biological samples from specimens.
  • Affords assistance with field staff as needed to support wildlife management activities.
  • Supports field staff with administrative and clerical tasks, helps coordinate management meetings, and assists with general office operations, including maintenance of office equipment and supplies.
  • Ensures essential public services are available during posted hours.

Requirements

  • Two years of office clerical experience or technical experience related to fish, wildlife or habitat resources.
  • One year of experience providing advanced clerical services based on established procedures, precedents, and policies in administrative, informative, and/or programmatic functions.

Qualifications

  • Substitution of postsecondary education from an accredited college may substitute for the required experience (3 semester or 4 quarter hours equal one month of experience).

Skills

  • Public service skills: Ability to provide clear, respectful, and accurate information to a wide range of user groups, including explaining ADF&G hunting, fishing, and trapping regulations.
  • Office Technology Skills: Skilled in using computers and office equipment, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, phone systems, and printers.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with field based and regional staff to accomplish goals.

Pay

The wage for this position increased by 3% effective July 1, 2026. The wage listed in this job posting reflects the increase.

Schedule

This is a permanent seasonal position that is authorized to work for up to 12 months within a calendar year, based on operational needs. The preferred candidate will work full-time on a regular Monday–Friday schedule, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (7.5 hours per day) with a one-hour lunch break, for a full 12-month period. This position will present limited opportunities for personal leave during high visitor traffic months, including portions of summer fishing and fall hunting seasons. This position may require infrequent travel within the State (normally one or two trips of up to 3 days during a calendar year).

Special Note

A valid driver's license is required. Applicants should be able to use and possess a firearm. Mandatory firearms training will be provided.
