About the role
The Wyoming Game and Fish Department (WGFD) is seeking a Fiscal Division Chief in Cheyenne, WY. This key leadership role oversees the Fiscal Division, which manages the WGFD’s licensing and financial operations.
Responsibilities
- Makes recommendations to the Deputy Director of Internal Operations on all hiring, promotion and disciplinary actions in the Fiscal Division.
- Establishes priorities, goals, and direction for the Fiscal Division.
- Maintains employee morale and work unit performance within the division.
- Collaborates with the Chief Fiscal Officer to ensure financial policies, procedures and systems comply with state and federal requirements.
- Serves as a member of the Department’s executive leadership team, addressing agency challenges and priorities.
- Attends and participates in Wyoming Game and Fish Commission meetings, testifying and offering expertise on financial and licensing issues.
- Serves as a member of various internal and external working groups and committees.
- Represents the Department at legislative meetings and various internal and external meetings.
- Serves as a member of intra-agency teams, including Budget Team, Legislative Team, Leadership Development Steering Committee, Property Rights Team, IT Oversight Committee, Habitat Policy Group, Vehicle Team, and Uniform Team.
- Serves as agency liaison with the State Auditor’s Office and the Contracts Unit of the Attorney General's Office.
Requirements
- Experience in business administration, public administration, accounting, law, wildlife biology, fisheries biology, or the equivalent level of experience in a wildlife resource agency.
- Experience in the supervision of multiple work units.
- A valid driver's license.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of relevant state and federal statutes, regulations, and policies.
- Knowledge of government management principles, concepts, and current practices.
- Knowledge of hunting and fishing laws and regulations and associated licensing requirements.
- Knowledge of state personnel rules related to employee supervision, including but not limited to, performance appraisal, fair labor standards, and disciplinary procedures.
- Knowledge of current regional and national issues impacting fish and wildlife management.
- Skills in reviewing and guiding organizational and work unit performance.
- Skills in leadership, supervision, and fostering strong team dynamics.
- Ability to guide staff, establish trust, and cultivate effective working relationships.
- Ability to interpret and compose legal documents, regulations, and organizational policies and procedures.
