About the role
First State Squash is a not-for-profit youth development organization based in Wilmington, DE. It supports Wilmington youth to achieve and sustain personal academic success, physical wellness, and matriculation and graduation from post-secondary institutions through year-round program offerings.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with FSS's current Squash Director to ensure the successful development, planning, and administration of the organization’s athletic programming.
- Lead the implementation of FSS’s community squash programming to expand equitable access to squash.
- Coach FSS youth programming, collaborating with the Squash Director to plan and administer daily after-school middle and high school squash/fitness sessions, build FSS’s weekend squash calendar, and run a 5-week intensive summer squash program.
- Support in-school PE clinics and on-site field trips with students from area schools.
- Develop and manage outreach programs to introduce squash to new audiences, provide and manage tournaments, clinics, lessons, community events, and leagues.
- Develop and manage a business growth plan for memberships, tournaments, clinics, lessons, and events with distinct participation and revenue goals.
- Manage club locker reservations and assist with billing for FSS community memberships, maintain accurate membership records and databases, and use software tools to collect, organize, and analyze data to identify areas of improvement.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for member communications, including inquiries related to lessons, clinics, memberships, and onboarding, and ensure timely resolution of member questions and concerns.
- Provide excellent customer service to current and prospective members, refine membership materials, and develop and manage maintenance procedures for squash courts and fitness equipment.
- Provide after-school transportation (twice a week) in our 10/12-passenger van for students to the facility, and for other special events and weekend trips.
- Chaperone weekend field trips (matches, tournaments, college campus visits) as needed.
- Participate in required certifications and trainings (i.e., CPR/First Aid, Safe Driving Tests).
- Attend and help plan important First State Squash events and functions.
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree is considered a plus, but not required.
- Minimum of two years of squash coaching or high-level competitive playing experience.
- Strong technical knowledge of squash rules, strategy, and player development.
- Experience in a community/club setting with group participation is a plus.
- Experience working with diverse families and youth populations is a plus.

- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record (candidates must be comfortable driving students in a 10/12-passenger van).
Benefits
- Compensation: Base salary, starting at $40,000, with opportunities for additional revenue streams including but not limited to private lessons, clinics, and camps.
- Benefits: A generous benefits plan includes health & dental coverage and a 3% Simple IRA match.
- Vacation: The position includes 5 weeks of paid vacation annually (with some restrictions) and 5 personal days. Some but not all national holidays are off.
