First Shift Packers
Position Summary
Under supervision, a packer will perform tasks such as handling, staging, wrapping, boxing, and weighing fresh or smoked meats and associated products. Additional responsibilities include recording correct weights, ensuring proper product placement, communicating TQC concerns, transporting product, maintaining packaging supplies, checking labels, and performing quality checks.
Responsibilities
- Handle all products and equipment in the proper manner
- Place all products in the correct package
- Record and document all weights when necessary
- Assure products are placed in their proper container/carton
- Communicate all TQC concerns to supervisor
- Transport of product to other areas of production when necessary
- Keep packaging supplies constant and replace them when necessary
- Continually check for proper labels on all Leidy’s products and any private labels when necessary
- Maintain pace to achieve requested production levels
- Trim and clean any unwanted material or packaging if necessary
Qualifications and Requirements
- Be able to differentiate between products, private label products, and specialty cuts of a hog
- Possess basic math abilities
- Follow directions and be a team player
Physical Demands
- Must be able to lift, pull, and push up to 30lbs
- Operate equipment and work near moving machinery
- Be on feet for up to 8-10 hours
- Fine motor and motor skill abilities (pinching, grasping, etc.)
- Ability to squat, bend, twist, kneel, reach, stand, walk, and climb frequently and as needed
