First Assistant Engineer - Training Ship Golden Bear

About the role

The First Assistant Engineer is responsible for maintenance, repair and upkeep of the training ship engineering equipment and spaces, and assisting in supervision of the training ship staff, students, and student workers. Reporting directly to the Chief Engineer, this role supports the academic departments in the education and application of knowledge in the processes associated with all aspects of the Maritime and related industry.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and operate engineering equipment and spaces on the training ship
  • Assist in supervising the training ship staff, students, and student workers
  • Initiate, establish, and foster communication and teamwork within the department
  • Coordinate multiple assignments with fluctuating and time-sensitive deadlines

Requirements

  • USCG First Asst. Engineer or Chief Engineer's license
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to initiate, establish, and foster communication and teamwork
  • Positive, cooperative, productive work atmosphere
  • Effective working relationships within a diverse population and with those from various cultural backgrounds

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Marine or Mechanical Engineering or Technology, or a related field; or equivalent on the job education
  • USCG 1st Assistant Engineer or Chief Engineer’s License – Motor unlimited STCW – 95 Endorsement
  • Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)
  • USCG Medical Certificate
  • US Passport
