First Assistant Engineer - FV Unimak

About the role

North Star Fishing Company is seeking a Licensed Assistant Engineer to support operations on one of our trawl catcher-processor vessels. The ideal candidate will assist in maintaining vessel systems and ensuring compliance with safety regulations.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the operation and maintenance of vessel systems including engines, electrical, and mechanical components.
• Monitor and report on vessel performance and environmental conditions.
• Ensure compliance with all safety and regulatory requirements.
• Support daily operations and emergency response procedures.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid U.S. Coast Guard Third Mate’s License.
• Experience with marine engineering or related field preferred.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Qualifications

• Proficient in using marine engineering tools and equipment.
• Knowledge of maritime laws and regulations.

Pay

Salary range: $40,000 - $50,000 annually, depending on experience.

Schedule

The position involves working on a trawl catcher-processor vessel, which operates in the Bering Sea, Aleutian Islands, and the Gulf of Alaska. The schedule includes long periods at sea, typically 60-90 days at a time, followed by periods ashore.
