About the role
Yeo & Yeo is a Michigan-based accounting and advisory firm delivering comprehensive solutions in business consulting, assurance, tax, HR, technology, medical billing, and wealth management. As a Payroll Specialist, you’ll be an integral part of the Human Resources team, responsible for accurate and timely processing of the semi-monthly firm payroll and maintaining the payroll system (SAGE). This in-office, full-time position is based in Saginaw, Michigan.
The ideal candidate has a high work ethic, excellent communication skills, strong attention to detail, and robust organizational abilities.
Responsibilities
- Maintain the payroll system and employee pay records; post and distribute time and attendance records.
- Audit time sheets, input approved payroll and employee information, and prepare bi-weekly records to ensure payroll liabilities are ready for posting.
- Prepare and distribute paychecks and reports.
- Prepare routine and special reports on payroll issues; review and approve vouchers for payment of payroll liabilities.
- Assist in processing State and Federal tax forms, including all year-end filings.
- Assist in preparing quarterly tax reports for State and Federal compliance.
- Review Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) and Health Savings Accounts (HSA) audits for accuracy.
- Identify, reconcile, and resolve inconsistencies relative to payroll accounts and accounting controls; prepare manual checks when necessary and make applicable wage adjustments.
- Reconcile employee payroll deductions with benefit insurance premiums and liability accounts, such as medical plans, life insurance plans, and disability insurance plans.
- Calculate payroll corrections, adjustments, and retro pay.
- Assist employees, benefit vendors, and outside agencies with payroll questions and payroll-related forms.
- Research changes to wage and hour ordinances and recommend modifications to the payroll system to comply.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, the community, other agencies, and the public.
- Maintain strict confidentiality.
- Perform other Human Resources and job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Associate’s degree in Accounting, Business, Human Resources, or related field.
- One to two years of experience directly in a payroll-based capacity.
Skills
- Knowledge of Federal and State employment laws/regulations and how to apply them to HR policy and procedures.
- Knowledge of FLSA, payroll processing, and payroll taxes.
- Proficiency in MS Office, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Experience with HR and/or payroll software.
- Strong analytical problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing for the audience’s needs.
- Ability to organize tasks with attention to detail.
- Ability to manage time and meet deadlines.
- Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
- Ability to work in a stressful environment and handle multiple tasks with competing priorities.
