About the role
The City of Saint Charles Fire Department is creating an eligibility list for full-time Firefighter/Paramedics to perform fire/rescue operations and administer advanced emergency care to the sick and injured. All applicants must complete the required assessment using the provided testing link as part of the application process.
Responsibilities
- Assists in the rescue of persons from physically threatening situations.
- Responds to emergency calls and administers basic and advanced emergency medical care to the ill or injured.
- Performs critical examination of injured/ill patients.
- Performs fire suppression as directed.
- Performs tasks as outlined under Missouri State Statutes for Mobile Emergency Medical Technicians.
- Performs equipment and building maintenance.
- Prepares and submits various reports as required by the Fire Department.
- Assists in providing medical training and medical equipment training to Fire Department personnel.
- Performs fire prevention and public fire education as directed.
- Performs other related work as needed.
Requirements
- Must be 21 years of age.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Valid state driver’s license.
- Verification of the following certifications required at time of hire:
- American Heart Association Advanced Life Support (ALS), Basic Life Support (BLS), and Pediatric Life Support (PALS).
- Either International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) or Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS).
- Missouri Paramedic License.
- Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT).
- Missouri Firefighter I & II (Pro Board Acceptable).
- One or more years of Emergency Medical Responder experience preferred.
- Must possess a current CPAT card (valid for one year from issuance date).
CPAT testing is available through the St. Louis County Fire Academy. Open testing is conducted on the first and third Tuesday of each month; pre-registration is required.
