Firefighter/EMT-Part-Time

About the role

The Clive Fire Department seeks a dedicated and skilled emergency responder to provide medical care, extinguish fires, and perform rescues.

Responsibilities

• Responds to calls for emergency medical services and fire alarms.
• Provides emergency medical care within the limits of medical certification.
• Operates and maintains emergency medical equipment.
• Communicates with hospital emergency departments and other healthcare professionals.
• Completes pre-hospital medical reports.
• Performs fire-fighting tasks, rescues, and other emergency response actions.
• Maintains fire apparatus, buildings, and equipment.
• Attends drills and courses in emergency medical care and firefighting techniques.

Requirements

• EMT-B certified through the Iowa Department of Health.
• BLS Firefighter I certified through the State of Iowa.
• Valid Commercial Driver License issued by the State of Iowa.
• Available for off-hour meetings, phone calls, and special assignments.
• Passes department physical ability test and physical fitness examination.
• Lives within 30 miles or 30 minutes of Clive city limits.

Qualifications

• High school diploma, HiSET (GED), or high school equivalency diploma.
• Knowledge of local fire and emergency medical operations.
• Knowledge of fire, rescue, and emergency medical techniques.
• Ability to work as part of a team and solve problems under stress.
• Ability to communicate effectively while wearing personal protective ensembles and SCBA.
• Ability to maintain favorable working relationships with colleagues and the public.

Skills

• Adaptable to interpret emotions and viewpoints.
• Understands Clive Fire Department policies and SOGs.
• Knowledge of building construction and fire behavior.
• Ability to solve problems with multiple variables.
• Proficiency in reading, writing, and comprehending the English language.
• Experience with PC-based computer programs.
