About the role
Firefighters provide emergency assistance, protecting life and property threatened by various hazards.
Responsibilities
- Receives, relays, and responds to emergency calls and alarms.
- Operates radio and other communication equipment.
- Lays hose, operates task related equipment, and participates in fire suppression and prevention activities.
- Performs salvage/overhaul operations.
- Administers first aid and provides emergency medical care to EMT-B level.
- Participates in continuing education classes on firefighting, emergency medical services, hazardous materials, rescue, extrication, and other Fire/EMS related subjects.
- Aids in developing plans for special assignments such as emergency preparedness, training programs, firefighting, hazardous materials, and emergency aid activities.
- Conducts public education programs on fire drills, safety, medical, and fire prevention topics.
- Inspects buildings, pre-plans, and tests hydrants.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Minimum one (1) year of fire service experience.
- Current WA State or Nationally Registered EMT I certification.
- IFSAC Firefighter I, or equivalent, certification.
- IFSAC Hazardous Materials Operations, or equivalent, certification.
- The ability to obtain CPAT certification within the first year of employment.
- CPAT certification.
- EVIP certification without record of suspension or revocation in any state within six months of employment.
Qualifications
- Working knowledge of driver safety practices.
- Knowledge of modern fire suppression and prevention and emergency medical service principles, procedures, techniques, and equipment.
- First aid and resuscitation techniques and their application as demonstrated through State Emergency Medical Technician Certification.
- Applicable laws, ordinances, departmental standard operating procedures, and regulations.

Special Requirements
- U.S. Citizen or lawful permanent resident of the United States who can read and write the English language.
- At least twenty-one (21) years of age.
- Valid Washington State driver's license and appropriate insurance at the time of hire (or within 30 days of start date).
- Ability to provide 36-month motor vehicle record.
- Pass appropriate background checks, including work-related physical examination.
- This position is considered safety-sensitive and is subject to pre-employment drug testing, including testing for cannabis.
