Fire Training Officer 2 - Intermittent - Multiple Positions
About the role
The Division of the State Fire Marshal seeks individuals to instruct and evaluate students in the Ohio Fire Academy's various training programs. Responsibilities include counseling students, conducting skill tests, reviewing, analyzing, and evaluating programs, methods, materials, and equipment to ensure compliance with NFPA standards, and making recommendations to improve lesson plans.
Responsibilities
- Instructs and evaluates students in the Ohio Fire Academy's various training programs.
- Counsels students, conducts skill testing.
- Reviews, analyzes, and evaluates programs, methods, materials, and equipment to ensure compliance with NFPA standards.
- Makes recommendations to improve lesson plans, sets up resident programs, etc.
- Provides 380 hours of work per year in one of the many programs offered at the Ohio Fire Academy (e.g., Fire, EMS, Technical Rescue, Leadership Development, Instructor, Inspector, Regional Training Delivery).
Requirements
May work flexible hours, exposed to unpleasant weather conditions, heat, smoke from fires, loud noises, and unusual work settings. This position is intermittent and cannot exceed 1000 hours worked in the fiscal year. All Fire Training Officers are expected to provide 380 hours per year in one of the many programs offered at the Ohio Fire Academy. Instructional times are concentrated between February 1st & November 30th each year.
Qualifications
- A typical instructor with the OFA will require one to two years to complete all needed task books and teaching evaluations before being considered able to teach in any specific subject area.
- All instructors are required to complete their hours on-campus, hybrid, regional, and direct delivery instruction.
- Must be certified as a Public Safety Instructor in firefighting by the Department of Public Safety pursuant to Section 4765.55 of Revised Code.
- Valid driver's license is required.
