Fire Technician III

About the Role

Total Safety is the world's premier provider of integrated safety and compliance services, including fire protection, gas detection, respiratory protection, safety training, compliance and inspection, industrial hygiene, onsite emergency medical treatment, communications systems, engineered systems design, and materials management. As a Fire Technician III, you will provide service inspection, testing, maintenance, and repair for fire equipment such as portable and semi-portable fire extinguishers, lifesaving equipment, fire and gas detection systems, foam systems, dry chemical systems, navigational aids, gaseous suppression systems, and water-based fire protection systems.

Responsibilities

• Performs shop service and/or field inspection, testing, maintenance, and repair of fire equipment, including customer portable and fixed fire extinguisher systems, lifesaving and navigation aid equipment, fire detection and alarm systems, fixed gas detection systems, and foam, dry chemical, and gaseous fire suppression systems.
• Handles troubleshooting and repair of more complex equipment and issues.
• Completes all documentation associated with inspection and repair in a timely and accurate manner, including obtaining customer signatures for invoicing and documentation.
• Conducts detailed visual inspections and system functional tests, reporting deficiencies and recommending corrective actions to customers.
• Conducts pre-job, job update, and post-job completion briefs.
• Trains customers and less experienced technicians.
• Assists in facility tasks such as stocking shelves with clean, tested, and ready-to-use equipment and preparing customer orders for delivery.
• Maintains work areas and assigned vehicles/trailers in a clean and orderly condition.
• Operates electronic safety and communications systems, including portable gas monitors and hand-held radios.
• Uses safety equipment such as retractable lifelines, harnesses, and lanyards.
• Works both onshore and offshore in exploration and production environments.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED and at least three (3) years of field experience in fire protection, petrochemical, oil refinery, or related industry.
• Associate degree in science or technical area strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of regulatory standards (State, OSHA, NFPA, Code of Federal Regulations, Coast Guard, and ABS regulations if offshore).
• Proficiency in using site-specific, facility, and customer-required Personal Protection Equipment (PPE).
• Trained in Respiratory Protection and certified to wear respiratory breathing equipment (Fit Tested).
• Valid driver’s license and proof of vehicle insurance; safe driving record.
• Willingness to travel to customer sites and for short or long-term out-of-town/offshore projects.
• Ability to obtain a TWIC card and pass required safety testing (e.g., Basic Plus, OSHA 10-hour).
• State Fire Licenses (if required) or NICET Level II certification in THREE fire protection disciplines, or NICET Level III in TWO disciplines.

Forklift experience is considered a plus.

Skills

Working Environment

The role operates in shop, indoor, and outdoor industrial environments. May be exposed to cold, hot, wet, humid, or vibrating conditions, as well as high pressure, chemicals, traffic, and moderate noise levels. Work may occur in customer environments, including offshore and onshore exploration and production sites.
