About the Role
The Fire Sprinkler Apprentice assists in laying out, fabricating, assembling, installing, and maintaining piping and piping systems, fixtures, sprinkling, and industrial processing systems. This role is ideal for a coachable and mechanically inclined individual.
Responsibilities
- Assist and learn under the direction of Sprinkler Technician Journeymen.
- Install pipe systems and valves.
- Cut, thread, assemble, and bond pipes and tubes according to specifications.
- Modify, clean, and maintain pipe systems, units, and fittings.
- Remove and replace worn components.
- Follow blueprints to meet product specifications.
- Calculate material measurements to verify specifications.
- Learn proper installation techniques.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent (required).
- Must be able to enroll and obtain a current Fire Sprinkler License.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Must comply with the company’s Drug and Alcohol policy and Background screening requirements, including customer-specific requirements based on contractual agreements.
Qualifications
- Mechanical ability and basic hand tool knowledge.
- Ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision under the direction of Sprinkler Technicians.
- Basic math skills, mechanical aptitude, problem-solving skills, customer service skills, decision-making skills, and ability to multitask.
- Ability to meet project schedules, plan and organize, troubleshoot, and train others.
- Ability to effectively read, write, and communicate in English with employees and customers.
- Ability to read electronic blueprints (strongly preferred).
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
- Frequently bend, ascend/descend step stools, ladders, and stairs; kneel; lift up to 75 lbs; reach above and below shoulders; stand and walk for extended periods.
- Required to see in color, close and far distances, peripheral, depth, and adjust focus.
- Occasionally balance, crouch, drive, kneel, lift up to 75 lbs, sit, stoop, twist, and work at heights.
- Frequent local travel and occasional regional/non-regional travel.
- Work inside and outside in hot/cold temperatures, exposed to loud noises, cramped quarters, dust, fumes, odors, standing on hard surfaces, and electrical hazards.
- Occasional exposure to chemicals, moving machinery, uneven/slippery surfaces.
- Must consistently wear all appropriate personal protective equipment as required by company safety policies.
