About the Role

The Fire Sprinkler Apprentice assists in laying out, fabricating, assembling, installing, and maintaining piping and piping systems, fixtures, sprinkling, and industrial processing systems. This role is ideal for a coachable, mechanically inclined individual who will learn under the direction of Sprinkler Technician Journeymen.

Responsibilities

  • Assist and learn under Sprinkler Technician Journeymen in installing pipe systems and valves.
  • Cut, thread, assemble, and bond pipes and tubes according to specifications.
  • Modify, clean, and maintain pipe systems, units, and fittings.
  • Remove and replace worn components.
  • Follow blueprints to meet product specifications.
  • Calculate material measurements to verify specifications.
  • Learn proper installation techniques.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (required).
  • Ability to enroll and obtain a current Fire Sprinkler License.
  • Mechanical ability and basic hand tool knowledge.
  • Ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision under the direction of Sprinkler Technicians.
  • Basic math skills, mechanical aptitude, problem-solving, customer service, decision-making, multitasking, planning, organizing, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to train others.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to comply with the company’s Drug and Alcohol policy and pass background screenings, including customer-specific requirements.

Skills

  • Ability to effectively read, write, and communicate in English with employees and customers.
  • Ability to read electronic blueprints (strongly preferred).

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently bend, ascend/descend step stools, ladders, and stairs.
  • Frequently kneel, lift up to 75 lbs, reach above and below shoulders, stand, and walk for extended periods.
  • Occasionally balance, crouch, drive, kneel, lift up to 75 lbs, sit, stoop, twist, and work at heights.
  • Ability to see in color, close and far distances, peripheral, depth, and adjust focus.

Work Environment

  • Frequent local travel and occasional regional/non-regional travel.
  • Frequent exposure to inside/outside environments, hot/cold temperatures, loud noises, cramped quarters, dust, fumes, odors, standing on hard surfaces, and electrical hazards.
  • Occasional exposure to chemicals, moving machinery, and uneven/slippery surfaces.
  • Must consistently wear all appropriate personal protective equipment as required by company safety policies.
