Fire Service Technician (Hoods & Extinguishers)

About the role

Thompson Safety/Liberty Fire Protection has a great opportunity to join a growing team by working as a Fire Service Technician testing, inspecting, and repairing fire suppression systems and extinguishers.

Responsibilities

  • Perform annual maintenance/inspections of suppression systems & fire extinguishers.
  • Determine proper type, quantity, and placement of fire extinguishers based on hazard/occupancy classification.
  • Exchange fire extinguishers that require service; replace obsolete/damaged units.
  • Installation of fire extinguisher cabinets, brackets, and wall hangers.
  • Flawless execution of inspection reports, 100% accuracy every time!
  • Perform semi-annual inspection of restaurant and industrial fire suppression systems.
  • Document findings and note deficiencies on inspection reports.
  • Communicate to the customer any non-compliance issues.
  • Collaborate with customers, contractors, and other team members to ensure efficient and effective use of fire extinguishers and possibly fire suppression systems.
  • Adhere to safety guidelines and practices, both for personal safety and the safety of others.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Certifications or training in fire extinguisher and fire suppression systems is strongly preferred.
  • Mechanical aptitude and experience with hand/power tools.
  • Knowledge of basic electricity and the ability to read electrical schematic diagrams.
  • Proven experience working as a portable fire extinguisher and/or fire suppression technician.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting NFPA standards (10, 17, 17a, 96), and technical manuals (Ansul, Amerex, CaptiveAire , etc.).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with customers and team members.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively.

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, talk, hear and have full use of hands.
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Able to work from a ladder, and in some case, a man-lift.
  • Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and travel daily.
