Core responsibilities
- Performs fire and life safety assessments of assigned buildings to identify potential fire hazards and fire code compliance issues.
- Documents assessment findings and works with campus partners to remediate identified issues.
- Provides fire safety training for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
- Aids in the development and implementation of fire safety guidelines and community risk reduction initiatives.
- Conducts periodic fire/emergency evacuation drills.
- Manages the “hot work” and “fire protection system impairment” permit programs.
- Participates in the EHS emergency “on call” program.
- Maintains accurate recordkeeping and provides status updates to the supervisor on a periodic basis.
- Supports and assists other EHS professional staff in resolving safety and health issues (including indoor air quality investigations, etc.).
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Fire Science, Safety, Engineering, or a related field.
- Current Fire Inspector I certification issued by the International Code Council (ICC) or National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years of fire safety experience or equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved.
- Prior experience in a higher education setting, research facility, hospital system, or other campus environment preferred.
- Experience with fire protection and life safety systems.
- Experience in delivering fire safety education programs.
- Demonstrated ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team environment.
