About the Role
Put your maintenance and repair skills to good use at Vallen as a VSS Temp Technician I focused on Life Safety Services in the Vallen Safety Services Group. In this position, you will install and/or inspect, test, and maintain (ITM) life safety systems and equipment for established customers on a scheduled basis.
Responsibilities
- Installing Life Safety Systems, conducting service calls, perform system testing and inspections to the prescribed standards.
- Performing on-site emergency troubleshooting and maintaining of customer's Life Safety Systems by identifying code issues and discrepancies.
- Preparing accurate, timely Technician worksheets (TWS) and reports.
- Providing customer service in the area of installation and/or ITM of Life Safety Systems, including but not limited to: Fire Extinguishers, Fire Alarm and Detection Systems, Gas Detection Systems, Foam Systems, Dry Chemical Systems, Clean Agent Systems, Special Hazard Systems, and Water Based Systems.
- Applying basic knowledge of regulatory standards pertaining to assigned duties, such as State, OSHA, and NFPA regulations.
- Assisting in shipping and receiving, unloading trucks, checking in merchandise, matching purchase orders to sales orders, and distributing to sales associates for processing.
- Maintaining minimum productivity of 95% within 60 days.
- Keeping all certifications and licenses current and renewed by completing continuing education as required.
- Assisting warehouse personnel with order fulfillment if needed.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED.
- Minimum 1 certification (manufacturing/state) in a fire protection related field.
- Minimum 1-year related experience in the installation and/or maintenance, repair, and service of life safety systems and equipment.
- Mechanically inclined with specific, relevant experience.
- Ability to repair and service equipment sold by Vallen.
- Current Motor Vehicle License with a good driving record.
- Commercial Driver's License required if carrying loads of hazardous materials.
- Proficient with hand tools.
- Ability to complete repairs and maintenance of equipment in a timely and accurate manner.
- Ability to read, write, and comprehend English (operational, process, and quality instructions).
- Must pass Drug & Alcohol screen, Physical exam, and background check.
Work Environment & Physical Demands

- Possibility of working in hazardous environments within a plant, requiring safety precautions and appropriate equipment.
- Ability to work in climatic weather (cold/heat) during day or night operations.
- Regularly required to talk and hear.
- Occasional lifting of items weighing a maximum of 55 pounds.
- Ability to climb stairwells up to 15 levels high.
- Ability to ascend and descend ladders (step, extension, cage) up to 24' high.
- Able to walk at a normal pace for up to 15 continuous minutes.
- Able to work from a standing position for 8-10 hours.
- Bending, climbing, and stooping as needed for access to equipment for repair and service.
- Pass all test requirements to be approved to work offshore (if applicable).
