Fire Protection Inspector.

This position is located at United States Army Garrison Dugway Proving Ground, approximately 50 minutes from Tooele, Utah, and a 90-minute drive from Salt Lake City, Utah. Dugway offers various alternate work schedules, with most employees working four ten-hour shifts Monday through Thursday.

Responsibilities

• Advise on changes in fire safety requirements and procedures, providing guidance in new or unusual situations.
• Operate within an assigned high-risk inspection area, conducting comprehensive fire and safety inspections.
• Review architectural drawings and specifications to determine compliance with fire and safety regulations, evaluating special features impacting the fire protection mission.
• Present public education programs on fire safety and prevention.
• Serve as the safety officer when responding to fire calls.
• Perform mutual aid support to local fire departments as required.
• Participate in a cardiovascular physical fitness program and conform to NFPA 1500 standards.
• Obtain and maintain required DoD Firefighter certifications within the first year of employment.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, including a completed background investigation.
• Completion of pre-employment and periodic medical examinations in accordance with DoDM 6055.06.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. regularly.
• Compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs, including pre-employment and random drug testing.
• Designated as Mission Essential; required to report to work during severe weather or emergencies.
• Must wear prescribed uniform and/or personal protective equipment while on duty.
• Work schedule of 72 hours per week (144 hours per pay period), including at least one 24-hour shift, weekends, holidays, and subject to recall.
• Required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
• Must possess or obtain a valid state Driver’s License and a Government Driver’s License.
• Annual Job Performance Test and occasional travel away from duty station (TDY).
• Must obtain and maintain the following certifications through DoD Fire and Emergency Services Certification System, IFSAC, or PRO-Board:
  • Firefighter I
  • Firefighter II
  • Airport Firefighter
  • National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT) or ability to obtain within 1 year if holding a state EMT-Basic certification
  • HAZMAT Technician
  • Driver Operator - Pumper
  • Driver Operator - ARFF
  • Fire Inspector I
  • Fire Inspector II
  • Fire Instructor I
• Within the first year, must obtain and maintain:
  • Driver Operator - Aerial
  • Driver Operator - Mobile Water Supply
  • Wildland Firefighter I

Qualifications

• Open to U.S. Citizens only.
• One year of specialized experience, including:
  • Conducting fire safety inspections to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Testing installed fire protection and suppression systems.
  • Providing training on fire protection and prevention topics.
• Experience must be equivalent to the next lower grade/level (GS-06) in the federal service.
• No substitution of education for experience is permitted for this position.
