Newcomb & Boyd is seeking a Fire Protection Engineer I in our Atlanta, Georgia office. This person will execute engineering tasks, help manage components of projects, and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design and development of MEP-T systems using Revit and discipline-specific modeling/calculation software.
  • Perform basic calculations and simulations.
  • Assist senior engineers with complex designs, plans, and calculations.
  • Assist in reviewing product submittals and shop drawings.
  • Respond to RFIs for assigned scope.
  • Conduct site visits under supervision to assess project progress.
  • Prepare technical reports and documentation.
  • Participate in internal project meetings, offering technical support as needed.
  • Stay current with industry trends and MEP engineering advancements.
  • Complete assigned work within project workplan timeframes.
  • Submit work for review by senior engineers before client delivery.
  • Comply with QA/QC procedures and assist in developing project workplans.
  • Client interaction as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Fire Protection Engineering.
  • Professional licensure or certification preferred (EIT, PE, etc.).
  • Entry level to six (0-6) years of experience.

Skills

  • Experience with Revit and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Understanding of engineering principles and building systems.
  • Reliable, accountable, and receptive to feedback.
  • Ability to follow directions and learn new concepts quickly.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.

Work Environment

  • Primarily office-based with occasional project site visits requiring adherence to safety protocols and use of PPE.
  • Physical demands include ability to sit/stand for extended periods, operate standard office equipment, and occasionally lift/move up to 25 lbs.
  • Site visits may involve uneven surfaces, ladders, and varied weather conditions.

No direct supervisory responsibilities. May mentor co-ops or interns under supervision.
