The Position
(minimum wage increase to $16.00/hour effective January 1, 2024)
Under the general direction of a Paramedic Mentor and/or Fire Captain, a Fire Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Intern responds to 9-1-1 medical emergencies, hazardous material incidents, rescues, fire incidents and other emergency and non-emergency situations.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age at time of appointment;
- Possess a high school diploma or equivalent;
- Possess a current CPR card (must be maintained for the duration of assignment); and
- Possess a California Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) license with accreditation in San Diego County at time of hire (must be maintained for the duration of assignment)
Employment experience working as an EMT on a Santee-Lakeside Emergency Medical Services (SLEMSA) transport unit
Qualified to complete the internship phase of an accredited San Diego County paramedic training program
Completion of paramedic training ride-alongs with the City of Santee
Special Requirements
- Selected candidates shall not smoke or use any tobacco products either on or off-duty while employed by the City of Santee.
