About the Role

As a Fire & EMS Captain, you'll provide frontline leadership during emergency incidents, establish and manage the Incident Command System (ICS), and direct multi-company operations to protect lives and property. Beyond emergency response, you'll oversee key departmental functions such as training, logistics, or administration; mentor and develop personnel; ensure operational readiness; and help guide the department through strategic planning, budgeting, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Assume duties as the Incident Commander at emergency scenes until relieved by a superior officer.
  • Direct, supervise, and evaluate assigned personnel, including Firefighters, Engineers, Paramedics, and AEMTs.
  • Supervise the maintenance of equipment, apparatus, and facilities while participating in fire suppression and technical rescue.
  • Prepare reports, conduct research for budget recommendations, and assist in developing departmental goals.
  • Respond to and resolve difficult inquiries or complaints from the public with professionalism.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED (Associate degree preferred).
  • Three (3) years of full-time Fire/EMS experience, or six (6) years of volunteer/part-time experience.
  • Utah or NREMT AEMT or Paramedic certification.
  • Current ACLS, BLS, and PALS certifications.
  • Utah State Certified Firefighter I & II and Fire Officer I (IFSAC or ProBoard).
  • NIMS 100, 200, 700a, and 800b (ICS 300 & 400 preferred).
  • Fire Inspector I (or Company Officer Inspector) and Wildland Red Card certification required within 1 year.
  • Valid Utah State driver's license.
  • Must meet established physical fitness requirements.
  • Must be able to meet attendance and punctuality requirements.

Skills

  • Thorough knowledge of department policies and the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Proficiency in standard computer systems and software.
  • Ability to perform physical lifting and heavy maneuvering.

Pay

$77,178.00 - $115,767.00

Test Date: August 20th, 2026 (C Shift). Applicant will be required to submit to a criminal background check and drug test.
