Fire Consultant - Houston

About the role

We’re seeking a Fire Consultant in the Houston, TX area. In this hybrid role, you will investigate and evaluate the origin and cause of fires and explosions. Responsibilities

• Determine the origin and cause of fires and explosions
• Perform scene examinations, including debris removal/sifting and scene reconstruction
• Interview witnesses, fire department personnel, and investigating officials
• Collect public records and conduct product research
• Effectively communicate opinions verbally and in writing
• Testify in depositions and/or court
• Meet with current and potential clients, including insurance and legal industry personnel

Requirements

• Experience on the private side preferred
• Familiarity with and understanding of the insurance policy
• Knowledgeable about subrogation and liability issues
• Strong understanding of NFPA 1033 and 921, and how they relate to the industry
• Testimony experience preferred
• Must not have been disqualified as an expert witness
• No disciplinary actions or revocation of professional licenses
• Nationally recognized origin and cause certification (such as through IAAI or NAFI)
• High School diploma or equivalent (College degree preferred)

Physical & Travel Requirements

• Willing and able to clear fire/explosion debris, reconstruct scenes, and examine building systems at heights or in confined spaces, dark enclosed areas, excessive heat, and soot-filled environments
• Capable of digging, bending, lifting, and moving heavy or bulky objects
• Able to work in inclement weather
• Willing to work additional hours as needed during peak times

Skills

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Proficient with PC applications

Location

Hybrid – Sugar Land, TX area (relocation assistance available)

Pay

Base salary range: $75,000 – $85,000 (depending upon experience) plus bonus. The compensation plan includes additional, nondiscretionary compensation based on billable productivity above a minimum threshold.
