As a Fire Alarm Technician I, you will ensure fire alarm systems and related equipment are properly installed and functioning to meet local and national fire safety standards in commercial, industrial, government, and correctional environments.

Responsibilities

  • Install, repair, and maintain fire alarm systems, including control panels, detection devices, manual pull stations, notification devices, and associated wiring.
  • Work independently to complete routine service tasks and collaborate with project teams on complex assignments.
  • Accurately document completed work and submit daily time entries via relevant software.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance and system inspections, including cleaning, part replacement, software updates, and system optimization.
  • Inspect systems for physical damage, wear, and degradation; troubleshoot issues to ensure continuous performance.
  • Attend construction meetings as needed for ongoing projects.
  • Contribute to updating system drawings and equipment records; submit redlined documents for as-built documentation.
  • Travel throughout Montana (MT) as required; be available for on-call duties.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience with the installation and wiring of low-voltage systems.
  • Solid understanding of electronic principles, including AC/DC theory, Ohm’s Law, and ability to read and interpret a digital volt/ohm meter.
  • Proficient in alarm systems, low-voltage wiring, and construction processes.
  • Strong ability to use hand and power tools; proactive attitude toward learning and expanding knowledge.
  • Excellent analytical skills for troubleshooting software and system integration issues.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints, schematics, manuals, and other specifications.
  • Capable of independently managing multiple tasks with a strong sense of responsibility and accountability.
  • Strong customer service orientation and ability to build positive client relationships.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to legally operate a company vehicle.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2-3 years of experience in fire alarm installation, system test and inspection, and maintenance.
  • NICET Level 1 or ability to obtain NICET Level 1.
  • Relevant certifications in fire alarm systems.
  • Knowledge of LONG’s operations, procedures, and infrastructure related to construction.

Physical Requirements

  • Standing for extended periods, climbing ladders or scaffolds, and working in tight spaces.
  • Lifting up to 50 lbs. from floor to countertop and countertop to floor.
  • Ability to function at heights.

Work environment includes inside and outside conditions with consistent in-state travel to jobsites. Hazards may include high precarious places, general construction worksite hazards, and driving in inclement weather.

Pay

$26.34 - $35.35 per hour, plus potential profit share.
