About the role
Sciens Building Solutions seeks a Fire Alarm Systems Technician with programming, commissioning, and troubleshooting experience. This role works closely with sales, project teams, and clients to ensure sound designs, installations, and commissions of fire alarm solutions. It's a key position for a growing team requiring attention to detail and effective human relations.
Responsibilities
- Review system layouts and coordinate with engineering, project management, and sales departments for successful project execution.
- Produce field surveys and daily project logs of activity.
- Program and commission complex fire alarm systems leading to final acceptance by customers and AHJs.
- Prepare detailed commissioning and inspection reports in accordance with NFPA.
- Perform complex troubleshooting and resolve issues effectively.
- Deliver projects on schedule and within budget constraints.
- Program systems using laptop computers.
- Assist in project inventory management and vehicle inventory oversight.
- Provide technical support, guidance, and expertise to other technicians.
- Manage job scheduling and progress efficiently, focusing on quality.
- Demonstrate proper operation of equipment and control units to customers and explain system usage.
- Comply with industry standards and company safety programs.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Two to five (2-5) years of technician experience in fire-life safety industry.
- Ability to program and commission mid-range fire alarm systems independently.
- Ability to terminate fire alarm control units and field equipment with minimal supervision.
- Effective communication and coordination with onsite contractors.
- Intermediate understanding of fire alarm circuit integrity and troubleshooting.
- Intermediate computer knowledge for software use and installation.
- Intermediate knowledge of NFPA 72, Section 907 of the International Fire Code, Section 909 of the International Building Code, and Article 760 of NFPA 70.
- State, local, contract, and/or product-specific certifications as determined by the business.
- NICET I certification.
- Knowledge of state fire procedures, filing, and requirements.
- Ability to read fire system design drawings.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and with urgency.
- Physical fitness to perform demanding tasks, including lifting up to 25 pounds, occasional lifting up to 50 pounds, working from heights, climbing ladders, standing, and walking.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and ability to obtain OSHA 10 certification.
- Excellent organizational, decision-making, and communication skills.
- Proficient in issue resolution.
