Fire Alarm Service Technician I

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform inspections, testing, maintenance, and repairs on fire alarm and life safety systems in accordance with NFPA standards and applicable local codes.
  • Diagnose system issues, identify malfunctions, and complete timely and accurate repairs.
  • Program, configure, and verify fire alarm control panels and related devices.
  • Complete detailed service reports, inspection documentation, and compliance forms.
  • Maintain accurate records of system work, deficiencies, and corrective actions.
  • Communicate effectively with customers regarding system status, required repairs, and code compliance.
  • Cook up with project managers, service coordinators, and inspectors as needed.
  • Ensure company tools, test equipment, and service vehicles are properly maintained.
  • Follow all safety policies, procedures, and job site regulations.
  • Stay current with industry codes, technologies, and certification requirements.
  • Participate in on-call rotation and emergency service response.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Technical training or certifications preferred.
  • Minimum of 1–3 years of experience servicing fire alarm or life safety systems preferred.
  • NICET certification in Fire Alarm Systems preferred or required based on state.
  • Strong working knowledge of NFPA 72, NEC, and local fire codes.

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience: Minimum of 1–3 years of experience servicing fire alarm or life safety systems preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Technical training or certifications preferred.
  • Industry Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of NFPA 72, NEC, and local fire codes.

Skills

  • Microsoft Office applications.
  • Proficiency with fire alarm panels, devices, and testing equipment.
  • Ability to use mobile service software, smartphones, and basic computer applications.
  • Familiarity with system manufacturers such as Notifier or equivalent.

Physical Demands

  • Frequent standing, walking, climbing ladders, and working in confined spaces.
  • Ability to work at heights and in occupied buildings.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Field-based role at commercial, industrial, and multi-family properties.
  • Exposure to varying weather conditions, noise, and electrical environments.
  • On-call rotation and occasional overtime may be required.
