Fire Alarm & Security Apprentice
About the role
The Fire Alarm Apprentice at Summit Fire & Security assists the Fire Alarm Superintendent in installing fire alarm systems. Key responsibilities include assisting with conduit, low voltage wiring, control panel, and other fire alarm equipment installations. Duties also include keeping tools in working order, cleaning the job site, carrying equipment, and learning fire alarm and special hazards installation.
Responsibilities
- Assist Fire Alarm Superintendent and project lead with installation tasks
- Keep tools available and in working condition
- Clean job site, tools, and equipment
- Carry equipment like ladders, tools, and replacement parts to required locations
- Learn and develop knowledge of fire alarm and special hazards installation through various teaching methods
- Read and understand NFPA 72 and NEC 70 to prepare for NICET Certification
- Follow SFS’s Safety program, SDS book, Hazardous communication program, policies, and procedures
- Participate in weekly Toolbox talks
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- 0-1 years of Fire Life Safety Industry experience, specifically in Fire Alarm, required
- Desire and ability to learn the tactful skills allowing promotion to a Fire Alarm & Security Technician
- Must comply with SFS’s Drug and Alcohol policy and Background screening requirements, which may include customer-specific requirements based on contractual agreements
- Efficient time management, organizational skills, and ability to prioritize initiatives and business goals
- Demonstrated critical thinking skills
- Collaboration and ability to work with all levels of employees
- Strong diligence and accuracy in communication
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record required
- Ability to travel 90% of the time, locally
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
- Bend, ascend and descend step stools, ladders and stairs, kneel, lift up to 50 lbs, reach above and below shoulders, stand and walk for extended periods of time
- See in color, close and far distances, peripheral, depth, and adjust focus
- Balance, crouch, drive, lift over 50 lbs, sit, stoop, twist, and work at heights
- Work outside, exposed to hot/cold temperatures, dust, fumes, chemicals, electrical hazards and noise
- Occasionally work indoors in an office setting, work alone and with others
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment as required by company safety policies
