About the role
The finishing tech prepares all materials and parts for the necessary operations (weld, grind/polish, deburr, and media blast). Uses grinders, pneumatic sanding tools, saws, and welding machines from time to time. Performs a variety of tasks in the fabricating department.
Responsibilities
- Abrade surfaces of metal to remove any scale, paint, grease, tar, rust, and dirt.
- Prepares work surfaces with masking film, tape, and rubber.
- Reads and interprets blueprints and work orders.
- Shovels or pours abrasives into machine hopper or reclaimer.
- Performs safe loading of parts on racks, pallets, or mats inside the blast booth.
- Turns valves on equipment to regulate pressure and composition of abrasive mixture flowing through the nozzle.
- Examines finished pieces for proper conformance to specifications.
- Performs daily checks and housekeeping of blast booth and corresponding work area.
- Operates a forklift safely.
- Other duties as assigned by team lead or department manager.
Requirements
- Education: High School Diploma / Equivalency preferred
- Experience: 2-year experience in metal fabrication preferred

- Basic ability to read and interpret blueprints, tape measure
- Basic ability to use computer systems
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to convey information and ideas.
Physical and Environmental Requirements
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate.
- The employee is required to wear special PPE including a helmet with compressed air when bead blasting.
- The employee is frequently required to stand, sit, kneel and crawl.
- The employee is occasionally required to walk and reach and grasp with hands and arms.
- The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 60 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and color vision.
- Work environment includes manufacturing.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.
