About the role

The Digital Die Cut Operator is responsible for operating the digital die cutter to die cut and apply laminate or UV varnish to digitally printed labels. This role involves setting up the machine according to job orders, completing quality checks, and utilizing the company's ERP system for job logging.

Responsibilities

  • Receive large, printed rolls from the digital press and run them through the die cut machine.
  • Inspect rolls upon receipt from the digital press and verify against the job order.
  • Set up the die cut machine to specifications as per the job order, including selecting dies, roll wind, Lam or UV, and checking any special instructions.
  • Verify the setup before starting the run and complete all required quality checks as per Fortis procedures.
  • Log jobs and track progress using the company's ERP system, noting any special situations.
  • Maintain proper registration and die cut during the run, troubleshooting as necessary and communicating with supervisors about issues.
  • Participate in the end-of-shift handover process, documenting any active issues and ensuring the machine is clean.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area and adhere to Fortis safety regulations.
  • Participate in continuous improvement projects as requested.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least one year of press or printing related experience preferred.
  • One year of manufacturing work experience preferred.
  • Basic math skills, including decimals, fractions, percentages, and ruler measurements.
  • Ability to read and interpret Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Good visual acuity to observe, assess, and inspect job tickets and finished goods.
  • Effective communication skills to interact with team members and management.
  • Proactive and detail-oriented to identify and address potential issues.
  • Team player mentality.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude to understand equipment function and troubleshoot.
  • Basic computer knowledge to operate the ERP system.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Training requirements: Attend required training courses or sessions related to the job as assigned.

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs on a regular basis and up to 75 lbs with assistance.
  • Regular exposure to dust and noise in the production environment.
  • Warehouse environment temperatures may vary based on outside conditions.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Safety shoes and eye protection are recommended in the production area.

Travel Requirements

  • Employees must be able to perform the essential functions of their position satisfactorily and may be required to travel as needed.
