About the role
As the Finishing Operator you are responsible for operating a machine to take large rolls from a press and break them down into smaller rolls following the customer’s specifications. You will follow specifications on the job ticket to complete the rolls to the right length, copy position, and core size. You will also verify quality of supplied rolls and review product for defects to ensure the highest quality product for our customers. Additionally, you may box product or perform other finishing duties to ensure product is provided to shipping in an accurate and timely manner.
Responsibilities
- Review job work instructions and set up the machine properly for the job, including blades, cores, and copy position.
- Operate the machine to finish master press rolls to customer specification.
- Review items and rolls for quality and consistency.
- Perform splices in which two rolls of the same product are joined together.
- Follow company procedures and requirements for verification of the product ID numbers.
- Verify Core IDs for the finished rolls match the work instruction for the item.
- Place finished rolls in the proper box, verifying the core and box IDs match, and place the box in the designated area for either shipping or stock products.
- Communicate with Shift Supervisor, Production Manager, and/or Scheduler regarding issues with the item, including over or under runs, item quality, or ID number questions.
- Maintain the work area and machines in a clean and orderly condition and follow prescribed safety regulations.
- Use ERP system to record shop floor data.
- Perform additional duties as required.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- At least one year machine operation experience; printing-related production experience preferred.
- Good communication skills and attention to detail.
- Proactive in identifying problems or inconsistencies and bringing them to your direct supervisor’s attention.
- Good organization skills to manage multiple different items each day.
- Meet minimum required score on mechanical aptitude test.
- Willing to attend required training courses or sessions related to the job as assigned.
Physical Demands
- Lifting, sitting, standing, crouching, and associated repetitive tasks.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. regularly and up to 75 lbs. with assistance.
- Pass a pre-employment drug test and subject to random drug screening.
Personal Protective Equipment
- Safety glasses are recommended in the production area.
- Safety toe shoes are recommended in the production area.
