Finish Carpenter

About the Role

Construct, erect, install, and repair structures using carpenter’s hand and power tools. This position requires advanced knowledge of finish carpentry and a willingness to put forth extra effort.

Responsibilities

• Select materials and structural units, such as lumber, prefabricated doors, cabinets (wood or plastic), and paneling.
• Shape or cut materials to specified measurements using hand tools, machines, or power saws.
• Examine blueprints to determine dimensions of structures.
• Layout floor plans and cabinet work using rule, framing square, and calipers.
• Determine the sequence of activities for fabrication, assembly, and erection of structures.
• Install structures, fixtures, windows, doors, trim, build stairs, cabinets, countertops, and lay hardwood floors and tile work.
• Hang and finish drywall and accessories.
• Follow established safety rules and regulations; maintain a clean and safe work environment.
• Understand and follow company chain of command and reporting methods.
• Retain and apply learned skills to progress to the next skill level.
• Regularly attend company safety training sessions.

Requirements

• Two or more years of experience in finish carpentry or a related area preferred.
• Thorough knowledge of common practices, tools, terminology, and safety precautions in carpentry.
• Thorough knowledge of the use and characteristics of common building materials.
• Skill in the use of carpentry tools and woodworking equipment.
• Ability to work from sketches, drawings, plans, or specifications.
• Ability to stand for long periods and regularly lift at least 50 pounds.
• Ability to perform job duties with little to no supervision.
• General understanding of construction practices.
• Strong communication skills (verbal and written) and ability to take direction.
• High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
• Valid Driver’s License and insurable under company insurance provider/program.

Work Environment

• Performs physically demanding work, often at great heights or outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Use of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) is required.

Physical Demands

• Lifts heavy objects, walks, and stands for long periods of time.
• Performs strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions.
• Lifts, pushes, pulls, or carries objects; uses abdominal and lower back muscles for support.
• Requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination.
• Ability to quickly move arms and legs; excellent stamina.
• Regularly required to talk or hear, stand, walk, use hands to finger/handle/feel, and reach with hands and arms.

Schedule

Full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday. Start and end times may vary depending on the time of year.

Travel

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.
