About the role
A Finish Carpenter, also known as a Trim Carpenter, specializes in the final decorative and aesthetic elements of interior and exterior spaces, ensuring a clean, polished, and high-end result.
Responsibilities
- Install baseboards, crown molding, wainscoting, window and door casing, stair railings, and prehung doors (wood and hollow metal).
- Measure, cut, and fit trim and millwork with precision to ensure proper alignment and finish.
- Construct and install custom cabinetry, shelving, and other storage or display elements.
- Read and interpret construction drawings and design plans to ensure proper execution of finishes.
- Make on-site adjustments for fit, finish, and alignment, and resolve layout or design issues as needed.
- Work closely with foremen, project managers, and fellow trades to coordinate workflow and meet project goals.
Qualifications
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and reliable, insured transportation to travel to and between work sites as required by the position.
- Advanced woodworking and finishing techniques.
- Keen eye for detail and precision craftsmanship.
- Ability to read and execute from blueprints and shop drawings.
- Strong communication and teamwork.
- Rough Carpentry / Metal Stud Framing: Framing and Layout, Blueprint Reading, Drywall Prep, Tool Operation, Safety, Team Collaboration.
Required Skills And Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or GED.
- Experience: 3+ years of experience in commercial carpentry, including both rough and finish scopes.
- Tool Knowledge: Proficient with hand tools, power tools, and basic construction equipment.
- Blueprint Literacy: Comfortable reading and applying construction documents, layouts, and shop drawings.
- Safety Mindset: Demonstrated understanding of and adherence to safety standards.
- Teamwork & Communication: Ability to work well with others and communicate clearly on job progress and needs.
- Attention to Detail: Strong focus on delivering precise, code-compliant, and visually excellent results.
- Physical Capability: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, kneel, and work on your feet for extended periods.
Preferred Qualifications
- OSHA 10 or 30 Certification.
- Experience in tenant improvements, institutional builds, or ground-up commercial construction.
- Familiarity with layout tools and techniques (e.g., chalk lines, laser levels).
