About the role
The Fine and Performing Arts Stipend positions play a critical role in advancing the district’s commitment to artistic development, equity, and student engagement by providing co-curricular instruction and enrichment outside of regular school hours. Working under the direction of the Director of Fine and Performing Arts, these roles are responsible for leading targeted arts programs that either further develop a student's field of study or introduce new artistic domains to enhance the teaching of the whole child.
Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and administer student recruitment, registration, and audition/selection processes in a fair, structured, and transparent manner.
- Maintain accurate student rosters, attendance records, and emergency contact details for all participating students.
- Ensure equitable access and actively encourage participation among diverse student populations across the middle school community.
- Design, select, and prepare appropriate repertoire, instructional materials, or artistic projects tailored to middle or high school skill levels and learning objectives.
- Establish master rehearsal/meeting schedules and lead dynamic, instructional rehearsals and group sessions (3–5 days per week, 2–3 hours per session).
- Differentiate instruction to support both novice and advanced students, fostering technical growth, creative expression, and artistic discipline.
- Plan, organize, and execute high-quality public performances, concerts, competitions, or exhibitions for the school community and general public.
- Care for, inventory, and safeguard district-owned musical instruments, art supplies, costumes, props, sheet music, and instructional equipment.
- Report any damaged, lost, or malfunctioning equipment promptly to building administration and the Fine and Performing Arts Department.
- Proactively communicate and collaborate with building administration, custodial staff, and secretarial teams regarding facility needs, room bookings, and security requirements.
- Maintain ongoing communication with the Director of Fine and Performing Arts regarding program updates, budget needs, and event scheduling.
- Provide clear, timely updates to parents and guardians regarding rehearsal expectations, event calendars, transport arrangements, and dress codes.
- Maintain continuous supervision of all enrolled students during scheduled meeting times, rehearsals, performances, and transitional periods until students are safely dismissed.
- Foster a safe, inclusive, antiracist, and supportive environment where students feel valued, respected, and encouraged to take creative risks.
- Apply consistent, positive behavioral support and de-escalation strategies in alignment with school district policies.
- Care for, inventory, and safeguard district-owned musical instruments, art supplies, costumes, props, sheet music, and instructional equipment.
- Report any damaged, lost, or malfunctioning equipment promptly to building administration and the Fine and Performing Arts Department.
Requirements
- Valid Massachusetts DESE Educator license preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in the relevant arts field working with middle-school-aged students; prior professional or instructional experience in a school setting preferred.
- Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and/or Portuguese is preferred.

- Strong organization & multi-tasking: Strong organizational skills with a proven capacity to focus, prioritize, and manage several project streams and tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong compliance & policy: Ability to perform duties with high professional awareness of district goals, state/federal laws, and school board policies, provided they align with the Framingham Teachers Association (Unit A) Contract.

Benefits
Stipend payments are distributed twice annually, uniquely issued at the midpoint and the conclusion of the school year.
