Job Summary
A Tax Experienced Manager, State and Local Tax advises clients on tax implications, recommends courses of action, and identifies compliance methods. This role involves marketing, business development, and tax compliance, consulting, and controversy representation.
Job Duties
- Researches complex situations, analyzes research, and prepares detailed reports.
- Conducts detailed tax return reviews, responds to notices, and provides exam support.
- Drafts tax memorandums, opinions, and documentation on various tax issues.
- Determines tax planning processes and ensures tax engagement letters are adopted.
- Manages client expectations and develops consultative selling strategies.
- Represents clients in tax authority disputes and utilizes tax-related software.
- Provides technical client service to multi-state companies and negotiates settlements.
- Drafts technical memoranda and suggests marketing approaches for new client acquisition.
- Reviews tax implications to identify alternative courses of action and develop new strategies.
- Supervises SALT Managers, Senior Associates, and Associates on assigned engagements.
- Evaluates performance and assists in professional development.
- Delivers performance feedback and completes evaluations.
- Acts as a Career Advisor to SALT Senior Associates and Associates.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Bachelor's degree, required.
- Masters degree in Accounting/Taxation or J.D., preferred.
- Six (6) or more years of prior experience in state and local/multistate experience, required.
- Experience supervising tax professionals, required.
- Experience preparing and/or reviewing tax provisions, preferred.
- Experience with corporate taxation, consolidations, and partnerships, preferred.
- CPA certification or other relevant certification, preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel and Word, preferred.
Education
- Bachelor's degree, required.
- Masters degree in Accounting/Taxation or J.D., preferred.
