Financial Services Specialist

About the role

The financial services specialist performs routine entry-level financial accounting, reporting, and support services activities under moderate supervision. MoDOT will bring candidates onto the team as entry-level, intermediate or senior level based on skills and experience. This is a CAREER‑LADDER position offering advancement without a competitive selection interview process. As you learn and gain experience, you can be promoted to a higher‑level position. Responsibilities

• Reviews and corrects payroll coding, timesheets, reimbursements, and benefit‑related forms.
• Performs a variety of accounting tasks, including reconciliations, discrepancy resolution, invoice processing, vendor payments, and monitoring of accounts and assets.
• Maintains accounting systems and prepares financial statements in line with GAAP and GASB for departmental and insurance‑related plans.
• Oversees and conducts physical inventories for capital/fixed assets and consumable inventory, both locally and statewide.
• Manages financial processes for federally funded projects, conducts research and policy impact analysis, supports budgeting and appropriations, guides staff on financial procedures, handles property damage claims, and performs other assigned duties.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, Planning, Public Administration, or related field; OR
• Four years of experience in positions related to multimodal transportation, federal or state grant program management, public or transportation administration, transportation planning, accounting, or financial analysis.

Pay

• Entry salary: (as posted above)
• Intermediate salary: $56,712.48
• Senior salary: $61,249.44
