About the role

The Financial Reimbursement Coordinator focuses on prevention and reduction of clinic write-offs and denials. Under the direction of the Director of Oncology, this role is responsible for insurance and eligibility verifications, assessment of financial requirements for recommended treatment, and financial counseling for patients and family members. The coordinator collaborates with Oncology staff, physicians, Finance Department, Patient Accounts, and Administration to maintain a high level of service. This position also performs the functions of the Administrative Assistant II role as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Focuses on clinic write-offs, denials, and L line submissions
  • Provides education to clinic staff on billing and coding requirement updates
  • Tracks new patient referral information for monthly Service Line meetings
  • Works with Social Workers for patient assistance programs as needed
  • Aids outside companies and offices with Benefits Investigation for incoming infusion patients
  • Assigns current account numbers for accurate registration and charge entry
  • Manually discharges accounts to assist Medical Records with account reconciliation
  • Pre-registers all patient accounts
  • Coordinates and verifies insurance authorization for infusion therapy services with outside providers
  • Communicates coverage issues to the treatment team that may impact sequencing and timeliness of care
  • Handles insurance authorization and verification for new patients and medications
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the revenue cycle
  • Researches denied accounts for patients and initiates further billing inquiry as part of the Denials Management Action Team

Requirements

  • High degree of computer literacy with experience in medical terminology
  • Associates degree in health sciences and/or medical records certificate program/coding preferred
  • Experience with insurance authorization/certification and oncology coding (ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS)
  • Minimum two years of medical business office experience with insurance procedures
  • Working knowledge of healthcare insurance, particularly Medicare and Medicaid
  • Working knowledge of NCCN guidelines

Schedule

Full Time, 40 hours per week, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM, Monday – Friday
