About the role
The Financial Crimes Compliance Operations Analyst is responsible for conducting extensive, complex investigations to identify potentially suspicious financial and/or fraudulent activity, including money laundering, terrorist financing, fraud, and other financial risks or crimes. The Investigator will make recommendations to the AML Financial Intelligence Unit Manager regarding suspicious activity and will prepare Suspicious Activity Reports (“SAR”) in compliance with established regulatory guidelines and time frames.
Responsibilities
- Knowledge of the laws applicable to money laundering, including the BSA, The Patriot Act, U.S. Treasury AML guidelines, OFAC requirements, and Suspicious Activity Reporting requirements.
- Review and research suspect items and/or transactions and report suspicious activity as required.
- Communicate with AML Compliance Manager any activity and trends that could implicate potential money laundering or terrorist financing.
- Perform routine compliance tasks and deal with routine compliance issues, typically concerning documentation and reporting.
- Assist in monitoring regulatory issues and follow established guidelines and procedures.
- Stay apprised of regulatory matters and developments through regular review of appropriate compliance publications, websites, and participation in relevant compliance conferences and training events.
- Apply knowledge of company policies and standard practices to resolve problems.
- Analyze issues and use judgment to make decisions; escalate non-standard problems or issues.
- Understand banking and financial services, including various types of products, services, and transactions typical for the Branch.
- Use analytical and investigative skills to determine unusual or potentially suspicious activity regarding transaction or account activities.
Qualifications
- Exposure to financial crime compliance, due diligence, investigations, or regulatory roles (a plus).
- Advanced knowledge of global AML, anti-bribery and corruption (ABC), sanctions, and financial crime regulations, regimes, typologies, and frameworks.
- Strong knowledge of transaction monitoring systems, alerting tools, and case management platforms.
- Expertise in forensic analysis.
- Strong ability to understand regulatory guidance and internal policy documents.
- Specialized knowledge of Know Your Customer (KYC), Suspicious Activity Reporting (SAR), and investigative techniques.
- Advanced knowledge of industry-standard KYC practices (Customer Identification Program (CIP), Customer Due Diligence (CDD), Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD), etc.).
- Advanced knowledge of financial crimes typologies.
- Experience with compliance tools and systems (e.g., Actimize, World Check, LexisNexis) is a plus.
- Ability to analyze financial data and identify suspicious activity.
- Strong documentation and reporting skills.
Education
Degree in criminal justice, finance, business administration, or a related field, or equivalent work experience equally preferable. Relevant financial crime or anti-money laundering (AML) certification preferred.
Pay
The typical base pay range for this role is between $70,000 to $82,000 depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location. This role may also be eligible for certain discretionary performance-based bonus and/or incentive compensation.
