About the role

The Financial Crime Risk Investigator II conducts investigations of moderate complexity for both internal and external cases. This position plays a critical role in safeguarding the organization's financial integrity by managing diverse investigations within Securities, establishing reasonable grounds for suspecting money laundering and terrorist financing, and recommending actions such as demarket or freezing accounts. The role contributes directly to mitigating financial crime risks, ensuring compliance, and protecting the organization's reputation.

Experienced working professional providing services, advisory, or process/program support. Requires conceptual and practical knowledge within the area and broader related fields. Accountable for own work and sometimes others, acting as an escalation point or knowledge resource. Leads projects or work streams with moderate risk and may be accountable for ongoing activities or functional programs. Works within broad guidelines and independently performs tasks end-to-end with minimal management guidance.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts investigative analysis by collecting, assessing, and collating case file information for AML, Sanctions/ABAC, and Financial Crime investigations.
  • Performs data analysis, manipulation, and interpretation to identify patterns and anomalies.
  • Initiates investigations and responds to emerging AML and Sanctions/ABAC risks.
  • Assists with reviewing and investigating court orders (subpoenas) related to criminal actions.
  • Coordinates investigations with various law enforcement agencies as delegated.
  • Prepares and delivers AML, Sanctions/ABAC, Financial Crime, and/or fraud detection/loss prevention training or updates to bank employees or other agencies.
  • Leads workstreams by acting as a project lead for medium-scale projects/initiatives in accordance with project management methodologies.
  • Exercises discretion in managing correspondence, information, and confidentiality; escalates issues as appropriate.
  • Conducts reporting and analysis at the functional or enterprise level, drawing conclusions and making recommendations.
  • Identifies and manages risks, escalating non-standard, high-risk transactions/activities as necessary.
  • Maintains project records, databases, and reports on project status and updates.
  • Monitors service, productivity, and efficiency within the function, implementing continuous improvements.
  • Provides guidance, assistance, and direction to Analysts, Investigators, and others.
  • Identifies, recommends, and executes standard practices applicable to the discipline.
  • Adheres to internal policies/procedures and applicable regulatory guidelines.
  • Stays abreast of emerging issues, trends, and evolving regulatory requirements, assessing potential impacts.
  • Participates fully as a team member, supporting a positive work environment and promoting teamwork.
  • Enhances knowledge/expertise in own area and participates in knowledge transfer within the team.
  • Keeps current on emerging trends/developments and grows knowledge of the business and related tools.
  • Participates in personal performance management, development activities, and cross-training.
  • Keeps others informed about project status and relevant information.
  • Assists others in completing work activities, providing training, coaching, or guidance as appropriate.
  • Contributes to a fair, positive, and equitable environment that supports a diverse workforce.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in a relevant field.

Preferred Skills

  • 3+ years' experience in a Broker-Dealer and/or Securities-related investigations role.
  • Thorough understanding of Securities products such as Fixed Income, Foreign Exchange, Prime Brokerage, Equities, Low Priced Securities, etc.
  • Knowledge of market abuse typologies such as insider trading, market manipulation, front running, and layering/spoofing.
  • Knowledge of financial industry products, policies, and procedures involving Institutional Clients, Broker-Dealers, and Securities-related investigations.
  • Understanding of regulatory requirements including FINRA, SEC, and applicable AML/BSA regulations.
  • Ability to manage multiple investigations simultaneously while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Experience reviewing trading activity, transaction patterns, and customer behavior to identify potential misconduct or suspicious activity.
  • Ability to analyze large data sets and document investigative findings clearly, concisely, and defensibly.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including preparing detailed investigative reports and presenting findings to management.
  • Experience working with surveillance systems, case management tools, and investigative platforms.

Pay

$29.75 - $47.75 USD per hour. TD is committed to providing fair and equitable compensation opportunities. The base pay offered may vary based on skills, experience, job-related knowledge, geographic location, and other business needs.
