About the Role

Serve as a patient advocate on billing issues by assisting patients in finding the best way to finance their healthcare. Steward the hospital's limited community benefit resources by implementing the financial assistance policy with fairness and accuracy.

Responsibilities

  • Provide and explain the Holy Cross Health financial assistance application, ensuring patients understand how to complete it.
  • Receive applications and verify completeness; request additional documents from patients when necessary.
  • Follow up with patients regarding pending items.
  • Resolve patient billing concerns via telephone, correspondence, or in-person interactions.
  • Investigate problems and complaints, initiating resolution in a professional and efficient manner.
  • Process credit card payments for various hospital departments and record transactions according to accounting procedures.
  • Interpret clinical data to determine eligibility for various programs.
  • Utilize excellent auditing and analytical skills for reconciliation of accounts.
  • Interpret, read, and work from computer reports and spreadsheets.

Requirements

  • High school graduate with three (3) years of experience in accounting and medical claims management, preferably in a hospital or physician’s office setting.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
  • Thorough understanding of Medicaid, Medicare, and other programs that assist the uninsured in paying for healthcare services.
  • Ability to interact with the uninsured and act as a liaison for the hospital.
  • Proficiency with Windows, Microsoft Word, and Excel.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate information clearly and concisely.

Pay

Pay range: $18.78 - $26.29 per hour, based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may vary based on location.

Schedule

Full-time and part-time roles available, ranging from 0.5 FTE (20 hours weekly) to 1.0 FTE (40 hours weekly). Benefit eligibility applies.
