About the role
Provides complex pre-award and post-award research administration for Department of Chemistry faculty. Performs diverse financial activities including tracking performance, managing departmental accounts, and ensuring compliance with MIT and sponsor policies.
Responsibilities
- Grant & Proposal Management: administers budget preparation, review, and submission of proposals to federal, foundation, and other sponsors and handles JIT requests and cost-sharing
- Financial Administration: manages general, fund, and research accounts; provides monthly forecasting to faculty, oversees award setups/closeouts, monitors payroll suspense, and resolves account overruns
- Compliance: ensures adherence to Uniform Guidance, FAR, and MIT financial regulations; oversees Financial Review and Control compliance, travel expenses, and procurement card activity
- Support & Collaboration: advises PIs, faculty, and staff on research administration, prepares allocation proposals, compiles audit documents, and maintains tracking tools (e.g., QuickBase), and partners with central offices to streamline processes
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree
- Minimum of two years of accounting/finance experience (university preferred)
- Strong Excel, analytical, and communication skills
- Ability to meet tight deadlines
Qualifications
- Experience with research accounting, relational databases, Kuali Coeus, Grants.gov, and SAPgui
- Knowledge of Uniform Guidance and FAR policies
Schedule
Hybrid schedule: three days remote, two days onsite each week.
