Responsibilities
- Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
- Maintain and monitor project performance, including WIP schedules, backlog, and margin analysis.
- Collaborate with project managers and operations leaders on job costs and job-specific requirements.
- Develop and manage budgets, including assisting department heads in understanding the budget process.
- Ensure compliance with corporate policies, internal controls, and audit requirements.
- Identify opportunities to streamline accounting workflows through improved systems, automation, AI tools, reporting templates, and technology-driven process improvements.
- Prepare and file all Federal and State reports.
- Process payroll in-house, requiring a deep understanding of payroll procedures and the ability to support the Field Payroll Specialist.
- Respond to requests from top-level management concerning any aspect of accounting.
- Partner closely with the CFO to drive financial and operational success.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA preferred).
- 10+ years of progressive accounting/finance leadership experience, including at least 5 years in a Controller or Assistant Controller role.
- Construction or project-based accounting experience required.
- Strong expertise in job costing, WIP reporting, and revenue recognition.
- Hands-on experience with Vista by Viewpoint ERP strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of GAAP and internal controls (public company experience a plus).
- Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical capabilities.
- Prioritize teamwork and collaboration.
- Proven ability to lead teams and partner with operations.
- Experience evaluating or implementing financial technologies, automation platforms, business intelligence tools, or AI-enabled solutions is preferred.
Qualifications
- Experience in construction or project-based accounting is highly valued.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
- Ability to handle sensitive financial and personnel information with sound judgment and confidentiality.
- Proven ability to lead and mentor a team.
