Responsibilities

  • Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
  • Maintain and monitor project performance, including WIP schedules, backlog, and margin analysis.
  • Collaborate with project managers and operations leaders on job costs and job-specific requirements.
  • Develop and manage budgets, including assisting department heads in understanding the budget process.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate policies, internal controls, and audit requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline accounting workflows through improved systems, automation, AI tools, reporting templates, and technology-driven process improvements.
  • Prepare and file all Federal and State reports.
  • Process payroll in-house, requiring a deep understanding of payroll procedures and the ability to support the Field Payroll Specialist.
  • Respond to requests from top-level management concerning any aspect of accounting.
  • Partner closely with the CFO to drive financial and operational success.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA preferred).
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting/finance leadership experience, including at least 5 years in a Controller or Assistant Controller role.
  • Construction or project-based accounting experience required.
  • Strong expertise in job costing, WIP reporting, and revenue recognition.
  • Hands-on experience with Vista by Viewpoint ERP strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of GAAP and internal controls (public company experience a plus).
  • Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical capabilities.
  • Prioritize teamwork and collaboration.
  • Proven ability to lead teams and partner with operations.
  • Experience evaluating or implementing financial technologies, automation platforms, business intelligence tools, or AI-enabled solutions is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Experience in construction or project-based accounting is highly valued.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
  • Ability to handle sensitive financial and personnel information with sound judgment and confidentiality.
  • Proven ability to lead and mentor a team.
