About the role

Primary focus of this role is to provide guidance and assistance to Account teams and clients by using financial decision-making tools, conducting client-facing meetings when appropriate, and speaking effectively on behalf of the Financial & Actuarial Consulting team regarding core services.

Responsibilities

  • Apply advanced skills to evaluate and present monthly, quarterly, and annual reports that measure client financial status, track expenses by product line, renewal projections, funding levels, and rates to Account Management teams and clients.
  • Train subordinates and demonstrate proficiency in various proprietary models and tools used to calculate financial results.
  • Analyze data from carriers on clients and provide recommendations to account management teams or clients to effectively negotiate rates and funding levels.
  • Prepare, analyze, and consult on various client deliverables as defined by the scope of services of the Financial & Actuarial Consulting team.
  • Assess whether analysis “makes sense” and think beyond the numbers on the page.
  • Conduct special assignments as directed by management.
  • Maintain workflow tracking applications or logs per departmental guidelines.
  • Oversee the review of contract documents (e.g., plan descriptions, administrative agreements, claim exclusions) to understand client parameters impacting financial reports and identify training opportunities for subordinates.
  • Evaluate, assign, monitor, and peer-review reports generated by Financial Benefits Consulting team subordinates when requested.
  • Demonstrate competence in collecting required data and materials for project completion with minimal supervision.
  • Serve as a resource to branch office staff to resolve complex underwriting problems and client questions.
  • Stay informed about local market trends to ensure branches have tools to remain competitive.
  • Assist in preparing presentations, campaigns, communication materials, and newsletters for internal staff and clients regarding Financial Benefits Consulting policies and services.
  • Manage escalated service issues to productive outcomes.
  • Oversee communication from Analyst positions regarding processes and data needed to analyze client financial status.
  • Peer-review and suggest improvements for materials shared across the region or divisional Financial Benefits Consulting team.
  • Participate in regularly scheduled Financial & Actuarial Consulting Team meetings and Champion calls.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with external and internal partners by demonstrating customer focus and work ethic.
  • Provide assistance to any member of the Financial & Actuarial Consulting team or branch location, including on-site client meetings.
  • Effectively navigate through conflict.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (financial or math preferred).
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in the Employee Benefits Field in an underwriting capacity.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledgeable of underwriting principles and the employee benefits field.
  • Able to take direction from others.

Skills

  • Competency with Microsoft Office and Windows environment.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including writing and using formulas.
  • Ability to persuade others to provide necessary items within pre-established timeframes.
  • Support for corporate, region, and sub-region initiatives.
  • Ability to negotiate and manage expectations effectively.
  • Initiative to grow personally and professionally as industry and business needs change.
