About the role

Do you enjoy working with financial data? If so, we're looking for you to join our team as a Financial Analyst in the Research and Exploratory Development Department (REDD) at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with internal customers and stakeholders to play an active role in the overall financial success and operational efficiency of our overhead portfolio.
  • Prepare and deliver clear, accurate financial briefings to senior leaders with an emphasis on insight, precision, and clarity.
  • Analyze, prepare, and present comprehensive monthly financial reports in excel on the fiscal/operational health of our overhead portfolio.
  • Evaluate staff charging trends to identify risks, gaps, and optimization opportunities, and provide data-driven recommendations.
  • Integrate and synthesize data from multiple systems (e.g., PEER, Data Warehouse, ADDIT, EBSS) to generate both ad-hoc and routine analyses.
  • Partner with REDD Leadership to develop labor and non-labor plans, including in-depth variance analysis and reporting.
  • Develop long-range forecasting models to inform REDD strategic priorities and decision-making.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in a Business area (e.g. Business Management, Accounting, Business Administration, Finance)
  • 5+ years of relevant Financial Analysis experience
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • The ability to work independently as a self-starter, exercising initiative and effectively communicating with internal and external stakeholders
  • An exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
  • Demonstrated excellence in problem recognition, follow-through, initiative, discretion, good judgment when dealing with sensitive information, and success meeting deadlines
  • A demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with different levels of staff with little supervision
  • An analytical thinking and ability to recognize and correct grammatical, spelling, punctuation, numerical, and logical organizational errors
  • The ability to thrive in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment, effectively recognizing shifting priorities and proactively managing workload to align with organizational needs
  • Able to obtain a Secret level security clearance
