Financial Analyst
About the role

If so, we're looking for you to join our team as a Financial Analyst in the Research and Exploratory Development Department (REDD) at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with internal customers and stakeholders to play an active role in the overall financial success and operational efficiency of our overhead portfolio.
- Prepare and deliver clear, accurate financial briefings to senior leaders with an emphasis on insight, precision, and clarity.
- Analyze, prepare, and present comprehensive monthly financial reports in excel on the fiscal/operational health of our overhead portfolio.
- Evaluate staff charging trends to identify risks, gaps, and optimization opportunities, and provide data-driven recommendations.
- Integrate and synthesize data from multiple systems (e.g., PEER, Data Warehouse, ADDIT, EBSS) to generate both ad-hoc and routine analyses.
- Partner with REDD Leadership to develop labor and non-labor plans, including in-depth variance analysis and reporting.
- Develop long-range forecasting models to inform REDD strategic priorities and decision-making.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in a Business area (e.g. Business Management, Accounting, Business Administration, Finance)
- 5+ years of relevant Financial Analysis experience
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
- The ability to work independently as a self-starter, exercising initiative and effectively communicating with internal and external stakeholders
- An exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
- Demonstrated excellence in problem recognition, follow-through, initiative, discretion, good judgment when dealing with sensitive information, and success meeting deadlines
- A demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with different levels of staff with little supervision
- An analytical thinking and ability to recognize and correct grammatical, spelling, punctuation, numerical, and logical organizational errors
- The ability to thrive in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment, effectively recognizing shifting priorities and proactively managing workload to align with organizational needs
- Able to obtain a Secret level security clearance
