About the role
The Financial Advisor at SECU plays a crucial role in helping members achieve long-term financial security. They establish value-added relationships with members to understand their investment and planning needs and offer tailored solutions. The position involves serving as the primary point of contact for financial advice and educating members on the risks and benefits of investment and insurance products.
Responsibilities
- Determine and document the suitability of investment and insurance recommendations based on the member's tolerance to investment risk.
- Educate members about the risks, features, and benefits associated with the solutions provided.
- Assist members in identifying financial goals and objectives by collecting and analyzing financial information.
- Engage in community activities to cultivate business outside of the credit union and assist members in choosing the right products.
- Follow compliance guidelines and adhere to regulatory requirements, including the Bank Secrecy Act, OFAC, and the USA Patriot Act.
- Engage with the community to identify growth opportunities in SECU membership and investment.
Requirements
- A 4-year college degree in Economics, Finance, Business, or equivalent work experience in Financial/Investment Services.
- FINRA Series 7, Series 66 or Series 63 & 65 certification.
- MD Life and Health Insurance designation (preferred).
- Certified Retirement Planning Counselor (CRPC) or Certified Financial Planner (CFP) certification (preferred).
- 4+ years of experience in Investment Sales.
- Clear understanding of SECU’s culture, core values, mission, and strategic priorities.
- Ability to communicate clearly, organize thoughts, and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships through continuous periodic reviews.
- Compliance with all applicable SEC/FINRA and regulatory requirements, including the BSA, OFAC, and PATRIOT Act.
Qualifications
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
- Physical requirements: must be able to remain in a stationary position for prolonged periods and lift up to 25 pounds.

- Knowledge of financial planning and investment principles.

Pay
Compensation is based on experience and education, starting with a combination of guaranteed pay and commission during the initial years, transitioning to fully commission-based compensation in later years.
